Boi Bumbá

AfroBrazil showcases this fascinating folkloric Brazilian fantasy tale within the tradition of Salvador, Bahia. Known as "Bumba Meu Boi" or "Boi Bumbá" or "Cavalo Marinho", it varies regionally in style and details but always maintains the core story about the life, death and resurrection of an ox.
Our troupe, that used to tour this show in Brazil, represents the tradition from Bahia. We will have many characters such as: Boi, Burrinha, Cavalo Marinho, Indio, Yansan, Capoeiristas and a group of percussionists.

This show is suitable for all ages and can be done both in the street and theaters. The Bumba Meu Boi show is be 25 to 45 minutes in length and has as much audience involvement as possible. The performers will be wearing costumes and along with the music represent the traditional folkloric story of the bull.

AfroBrazil brings artists familiar with the Bumba Meu Boi tradition to truly and authentically present this Brazilian cultural manifestation to American audiences.
